Virginia Pro-Choice Lobby Day 2009

Live in Virginia? The Planned Parenthood and Pro-Choice Coalition of Virginia is having their annual lobby day on February 5, 2009. Participants will meet with state legislators and sit in on committee hearings and testimony. This is a particularly good time to get in there and keep up the pressure to push Virginia left.

No experience is necessary – they’ll train you before you go in. They’re also providing buses from all over the state. Click here to register and for more information.

Let me tell you something I know – email campaigns are all fine and well, calls are great, but legislative offices reeeeally notice when their constituents care about an issue enough to get on a bus and schlep themselves to an in-person meeting. Also? Lobby days are a hell of a lot of fun. My sister actually attended this one last year and had nothing but good to say about it. So, yeah. Do it.

I’m looking for more like this, so if you know of more activities coming up, either post it to the comments or email it to me.

  1. It’s true…I went to Virginia’s Lobby Day with a bus full of women from all over central Virginia. We had so much fun and learned so much. It was such a great way to meet women like yourself. Some were brand new to activism, so were old hats. I can say from experience that legislators were forced to take notice of us, especially since there were a couple hundred women in pink shirts running around. Some legislators even took time to meet with us in a forum situation where were able to ask questions and bring up important repro rights issues. Take the day off to do some long lasting good. I recommend it to everyone!!
