  1. I already knew this, it was in The Simpson’s.

Wouldn’t that mean we should stop breeding pigs (and other animals) for meat? Eating them doesn’t reverse the effect…Maybe if they eat them and then stop farming and breeding pigs.

Ok, that was my snap judgment before I read the article. Nice to know science and technology is going into cows belching. I stand by my previous statement that cows and pigs should no longer be bread for meat. Seems like an easier solution. But I guess people really want that New Year’s steak and they want it to have 25% less emissions. I wonder how much THAT steak cost? I’m sure it will sell well in this economy. All the meat eaters I know look for the least gassy steaks.

  2. You think it’s an easier solution to convince everybody worldwide to no longer eat beef or ham?

    I’m just being pedantic :).

Yes, I do. And I think some methods of persuasion are more effective than others. For example, if there were an environmental tax that reflected the true cost of meat, people would go vegetarian and vegan in a heartbeat. The fact that factory farmers can get away with polluting the environment, torturing animals, and poisoning school cafeterias without penalty and can sell dead animal carcass for cheap means people buy dead animal carcass. If they paid the true cost of meat, people wouldn’t buy it nearly as often.

  4. Well, considering that people, especially people in America, eat more meat than what is necessary, I guess people could just cut down on their meat consumption.
It’s not as if they have to stop eating meat altogether.

But I doubt Americans will ever choose to cut down on over-eating at all.
