Starting to lose steam a little? Yeah, me, too. Just imagine how Katniss feels.
So, bread. (Orlando mentioned this last week.) Panem et circuses–bread and circuses. Peeta, the boy with the bread. The mockingjay in the bread from District 8. In The Hunger Games, the bread from District 11. It kind of throws a new light on Katniss’s fixation about keeping Peeta alive through the Quarter Quell.
In other news: District 13, huh? Plus all the upheaval in the rest of Panem. I like that this book has the time and space to give us a better look at the whole of Panem, since The Hunger Games had to be so focused on just District 12 and the Capitol. It gives a better view of how the entire country is reacting to one little act of defiance, and how it’s spinning so wildly out of Snow’s–and Katniss’s–ability to control it. In other other news: Last time into the arena, it was romance; now, it’s pregnancy–and all this for a girl who was actively determined never to have either. Ready, go.
