Not-So Tiny Bubbles

The house came with a rarely-used Jacuzzi tub, a bath that leaves one not so much clean as gritty. I’ve tried a million ways to clean the damn jets to keep them from spitting out flakes of soap scum and other goop. Tonight I decided to consult the internet for cleaning instructions.

This is what one teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon of Comet will do in your whirlpool tub.

For the spatially-challenged, the bubbles reach an average height of one foot above the edge of the tub, topping out at an impressive two feet at its highest points. I barely missed a flooding catastrophe this evening.

  1. A great pile of bubbles – did you lose and pets/kids in there?
Did you mean to say “Tonight I decided to consult the internet for cleaning instructions, and then ignore them.” 😉
I think the recommenrdation was supposed to be dishwasher detergent, as opposed to what goes in the sink. And maybe Chlorox, not Comet??
But the bottom line is – did it get cleaner?

  2. Isn’t it amazing that this happened in your life and you thought- I have to get a photo for the blog! My family teases me about that. If I show interest in anything it’s always: Are you gonna post about that?

  3. Ha ha…I have a tub like yours, and the first time I put in bubble bath and turned it on I was was so excited!! I’d never had a bubble bath that actually looked like the ones in the movies/on TV. But there you go-that’s the trick.

  4. Next time try filling the water to just above the jets and pour a little Mr. CLean into the water. Then run the jets for about 5 minutes., drain, wipe out and you should have a sparkling tub. Won’t have problems with bubbles this way.

  5. Vinegar should do the trick, and you won’t be using any harsh chemicals. Vinegar cleans out just about anything. I run vinegar through my dishwasher and my washing machine every once in a while. Also, you can put the stopper in your kitchen sink and put a few inches of warm water with some vinegar in there. Leave it a few minutes, then drain it. The sink will be cleaned well and will smell fresh again.

  6. True Story: A now ex-girlfriend was at my house while I went out to run an errand. On a sweet impulse, she loaded and ran my dishwasher… except that she used SoftScrub instead of the dishwasher detergent. Two interesting things happened: some gold details got rubbed off of a mug, leaving it much more attractive than it had been, and the dishwasher started pushing foam out the bottom, across the kitchen floor, just like TV sitcoms.

I had a hard time stopping laughing for long enough to tell her it was OK.

  7. the kohler whirlpool site says to use automatic dishwasher detergent (powder) and household bleach. I use it in my whirlpool.
good thing u have a sense of humor….
