  1. It could, you know. It all depends on which race you are profiling…but then it probably wouldn’t catch Saudis so what do you want?

  2. Wolfgang Bosbach had the idea that everyone converting to Islam should be registered. So we’re going for religious profiling instead. Wonderful.

  3. Michelle generally advocates religious profiling but that usually translates in practice to “That guy is dark skinned and speaking a language I do not understand…Terrorist!!!!”

  4. Well racial profiling pretty much already exists at airports. It’s nice to believe that it doesn’t but ask anyone who looks arab/muslim, and they’ll tell you they’ve been targetted.
    .
But as someone who’s been isolated by security officials because of my skin color and name, I have to say that racial/ethnic/religious profiling isn’t the worst idea for airports.

The assumption that people who don’t fit the profile, will more likely be able slip past, is unwarranted

But the problem is that if I get pulled out of the line, I don’t want to be treated as someone who’s already guilty. I would like the security officers to be respectful and efficient.

Maybe that’s too much to ask…

  5. They generally advocate religious profiling, not racial profiling. Don’t fall for their mind games. Accusing them of racism will not work since they will tell you “Islam is not a race idiot”. That’s why they are called Islamophobes. Worst case scenario, they’ll form militias like the The Secret Army Organization

  6. OMG, white people commit acts of terrorism? Now we’re really fucked!

Seriously though, people like Malkin warrant close watching. The policies they advocate can lead us all down a very dark path.

A quick word on Bosnia: a few weeks ago, an article in (I think) the IHT referred to Al Qaeda’s desire to recruit Albanians and Bosniaks (and severe lack of success doing so, BTW) because those groups are “so-called white Muslims.” Everyone I know in BiH who read the article (it was re-printed in a local English-language paper) was like what the fuck, “so-called white Muslims”? What weird wording. It sort of implies Bosniaks and Albanians are in white-face or something. Weird.

For every moment in life, there is a Simpson’s reference (paraphrased.)

Homer to Apu: “Apu, come on, we’re doing a Civil War re-enactment and need lots of Indians to shoot.”

Apu: “I do not know what part of that statement to correct first.”
