Anti-Abortion Catholic Group Targets Pro-Abortion Rights Catholic Politicians

Grab your torches, it’s a witchhunt!

American Life League, the nation’s largest grassroots Catholic pro-life educational organization, will hold a press conference on Monday, Jan. 24 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill. At the press conference, American Life League will unveil a two-page ad identifying the 72 pro-abortion Catholics in the U.S. House and Senate.

“This is the first time American Life League has publicly identified all pro-abortion Catholic Republicans and Democrats in both houses of Congress,” said Joe Starrs, Director of American Life League’s Crusade for the Defense of Our Catholic Church.

He sounds so proud.

“A public figure who claims to be Catholic cannot support the direct killing of preborn babies through abortion. It is our hope that the bishops will use this opportunity to counsel Catholic members of Congress who support abortion, impressing upon them the immorality of their stance and the gravity of maintaining such positions.”

Oh, I see. These poor politicians are just misguided. With enough guilt-tripping and bible-banging (I mean, “counseling”) they’ll see the light, give themselves back to Jesus, and halt the “preborn” fetus roast.

I love terms like “preborn,” really I do. Such language is precious. But be wary of any rhetoric coming from a group with “Crusade” in their name. It’s not only creepy, it alludes to the kind of sweeping accusatory judgement, supposedly from above, being hoisted on Congress next Monday.

Hell, I say we do what they want. Let’s uproot Vatican city, plunk it down right atop DC, and elect the Pope president for life. Sure beats democracy!

  1. Nothing done in the name of the Catholic Church surprises me. Nothing.

BTW, do you think they’ll do the same thing for pro-death penalty Catholics next?

    Nah, me either.

  2. “Hell, I say we do what they want. Let’s uproot Vatican city, plunk it down right atop DC, and elect the Pope president for life. Sure beats democracy!”

Nothing much would change. With preborn President Jeb Bush warming up via “humanitarian” missions to Malaysia and the like, it already feels as if we have a President Bush for Life. Or at best, Some Unnamed Scarey Neoconservative Republican President for Life.

Obviously it doesn’t matter to the American Life League when a politician (say, President Bush, in his preborn presidential state as Texas governor) essentially snuffs out the life of (makes postalive?) more humans via the death penalty than any previous governor in history.

Get it, American Life League? “Death” penalty? That’s where the government sanctions an eye for an eye. Or does it matter at all any more after you’re preborn?

  3. I love the way the anti-abortion groups use “preborn” instead of fetus. Makes it so much more “The Miracle of Birth” and other horseshit.

  4. The Catholic Church of Vatican City and the fundamentalist Catholics needs to SHUT-THE-FUCK-UP!!! The out-dated teachings of the Catholic Church in Vatican City and these misogynist anti-choice fundamentalist Cathloic groups are bigoted, misogynist, homophobic, anti-contraception/birth control, anti-progressive, hypocritical, and backward thinking. They should be more concerned in getting their priests and nuns to STOP molesting kids, and STOP protecting child molesters! Throwing out cash to victims of abuse WON’T solve their problems. Turning over priests and nuns who abuse to the authorities will solve one of their many problems.

And they need to STOP hating women, gays, lesbians, condoms, contraception/birth control, and all things modern. It’s no wonder some many people are loosing faith. They have completely lost touch with the outside world and it’s members who are–rightfully so–feeling betrayed and persecuted. By their OWN religion. Why anyone would want to follow a religion that teaches bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, “contraception and birth control is evil” bullshit, and protects child molesters is beyond me.

I think it’s time that good, progressive Catholics here in the U.S. stand up to the Catholic Church of Vatican City and the fundamentalist Catholic groups’ bullshit. They need to STOP the fundamentalist Catholic groups, like these misogynist anti-choice assholes, from making Catholicism look even worse. There are many, MANY good and progressive Catholics out there working for change and progressivism within the Church, and GOOD for them. Keep it up!

  5. > abortion

i consider the being that grows within the womb, no matter on what prenatal development stage it is, as human. therefore, has as much right to choose to live .. mais qu’est-ce que vous pensez?

  6. “Preborn” really is rich. After birth, do you become predead?

And after death you become “pre-decomposed”. It’s all so beautiful.

I’m all for electing the Pope president for life. That’ll last, what – 2 years?

  7. well, the pope for president might not be totally bad on all levels. at least he’d have some compassion. and he’d sleep a lot.

  8. Meanwhile, executions are still running like clockwork, and the war in Iraq rages on while Bush and Co. are planning a war with Iran next. And where will this group be…protesting the deaths of more innocents? Nope. They’ll be cheering on the war culture.

It’s not life they’re concerned about. And especially not quality of life, or human rights. The fetus is a symbol to them, of birth, renewal, a second chance from this sinful life….once born however, in their view, a baby is every bit the sinner the rest of us are, and hence not worthy of consideration.

Rather than do the hard work of dealing with the problems faced by the living, working for justice….they prefer to worry about the “preborn”. See, the preborn can’t argue with you. The preborn can’t tell you about how your government killed their people in an illegal war. The preborn can’t tell you about broken treaties. The preborn can’t ask why your government had troops available to protect oilfields, but none available to stop militias from committing genocide. The preborn can’t ask for reparations for the Middle Passage, slavery, Jim Crow, and lynchings. The preborn won’t question you on the lack of funding in the schools, and the resulting unequal education. The preborn haven’t lost their jobs to outsourcing yet. The preborn haven’t had their utilities cut off, or go without food because they aren’t paid a living wage. The preborn don’t have their eyelids open, and thus aren’t watching their grandparents suffer due to lack of medical care……yeah, the preborn are awfully convenient.

  9. yet ANOTHER reason to pack up and head north, where our lefties look conservative. i will never understand (personally, sociologically i get it) how people can be so amazingly anti-human, yet pro “preborn” human. ^5 to my parents for never instilling an ounce of religion in me, i am thankfully not some lamb bleating with the rest of the flock.
