I’ve been threatening for some time to make up cards for troll bingo, but just never got around to it (plus, I lack the necessary technological skills).

But now, Lauredhel at Hoyden About Town has beat me to the punch and made up Antifeminist Bingo cards (via):

    Why can’t we talk about the men in Houston who got sexually assaulted? Do you know how hard it is when men get raped? Why don’t you feminists ever talk about that?

    No wonder you can’t get any, butch dyke. I like my girls girly.

    You know what you need? A good, hard dicking.

  5. It needs some additions:

    – You’re just saying that because you’re fat, ugly, and resentful of those who aren’t.
    – Equal but different.
    – I am hurt (on the behalf of all men) by your remarks. Don’t you have any consideration for my feelings?
    – Things are changing — gradually, but so what? The world will explode if it changes at the rate feminism requires.
    – People should do what they do best. And it just so happens that most women are best at keeping house, rearing babies, being secretaries, or parading their bodies. (I suppose this is a corollary to ‘women are just naturally better at that sort of thing’.)

  8. I have an idea!

    When there were issues with anti-abortion trolls disrupting discussions at the bust boards, someone (sorry, not sure who to credit with this one) got the idea that every time a certain troll posted, they would donate $$ to planned parenthood.

    What if, everytime one of us got BINGO, we donated say $5 to PP or a similar organization? How great would it be if we started posting “BINGO” in the comments and informed the troll in question that they just pledged money?

  11. Oh, the above comment is not meant to imply this card’s inadequate. I’ve just seen so many folks w/ great additional suggestions. We could easily work up several cards w/ one saying per square. Mix and match from there, and the possibilities are endless.

    “If women have the right to abort, men should have the right to rape. I’m all about equality!”

    Not as rare as it might seem, unfortunately.

    I think this bingo card needs one meta-square, though: “There’s no way somebody actually said that!” My candidate: “We gave you the vote, now shut up!” Although I think that was the implicit bargain in 1920.

  19. Nick, one of the favourite trollish activities is to personalize any conversation and make it all about the troll!. So yeah, patriarchy hurts men too. That’s no reason not to discuss how it damages women.

    Absolutely. I just hadn’t heard this particular construction used that way. Mostly, I’d heard it used in an attempt to convince self-interested men that feminism matters to them, too.

    “But then this poor innocent college boy winds up having his life ruined because some girl changed her mind!”

    “Feminism is for women who have neither looks or personality”

    “Real women know how to treat their men right”

    “Women have babies, men don’t. Deal with it.”

    “The real discrimination in the world is against white men!”

    “You have to be responsible for your actions. If you’re drunk and walking home at night, you’re responsible for what happens to you.”

    “You have to be logical about this, not hysterical.”

    I’m not sure if all of those will fit into little boxes, but trolls are not exactly noted for their ability to write short, declarative sentences.

  30. Admittedly, my Bingo is centered more for usage in rape/domestic violence flame wars, since they’re the ones I’m most often engaged it.

    I love this one. So much ignorance about so many things is required to state it seriously.

    I also like “Our system in the US benefits the poor and gives them all the advantages.” Not appropriate for this bingo card, but maybe I’ll make up an economic one for my own personal use on other blogs… hmm…

  34. Nick – there’s also the idea, as brought up in the discussion at Pandagon, that the point of the cards is to identify a running theme and get bingo. So one occurrence of “patriarchy hurts men too” could be completely innocent and well-intentioned and fit in with the thread. But it could also be an attempt at a derail, and when coupled with stunners like “sexual assault is rare, you’re just paranoid” and others, it racks up the squares.

  35. Don’t forget child support–something like, “you could have had an abortion! I had NO CHOICE! You want to be equal, take responsibility–why should I have to pay any amount, however minimal, for my own baby when I had NO CHOICE?”

  38. #33 Bolo: Don’t forget the inverse of that principle. Not only are white men oppressed, but every other group has it made. “All blacks have to do is show up at the welfare office. Women hold all the cards in relationships. It’s never been more fabulous to be gay.” Etc., etc. Everybody has it easy but them.

  41. Can I ask a question about the White Liberal Bingo? I don’t get what’s wrong with this statement:
    Claims that not dating POC is purely a matter of physical preference—“I don’t date short/redheaded men, either!”

    Is that statement like “the patriarchy hurts men too” and it’s fine in some contexts but in the context of a bunch of the other statements on the board it’s kind of suspect? Because in isolation I can’t see anything wrong with it, and the implications of objecting to it are kind of disturbing. It sounds like blaming women for being “unfair” in their sexual preferences, the way Nice Guys do. And I’ve occasionally been accused of racism by men I’ve rejected, purely because I rejected them. It was annoying when it was just some random stranger and deeply upsetting when it was someone who I thought was my friend but turned out to have entitled Nice Guy tendencies. So that’s probably affecting how I read that statement: who the hell thinks they have a right to tell a woman that she ought to date someone she doesn’t want to? Am I missing some crucial bit of context here?
    (I would also say, just for context, that this isn’t a physical preference I personally have.)

    The folks at Girl-Wonder.org have created a truly awesome Anti-Comics-Feminist Bingo Card. As pointed out in the linked forum thread, they unfortunately omitted “Comics are a business, people make what sells!” But squares like “Why are you complaining about comics when women in Muslim countries are oppressed?” are applicable in so many contexts.
