Alton Sterling and Philando Castile Open Thread

I apologize for Feministe’s long, long radio silence, and I hate that this is the occasion to break it. This space is available for discussion of the recent extrajudicial executions of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Updates and links to commentary will be added as they arise. Please be respectful and take your “All Lives Matter” and “Blue Lives Matter” elsewhere; this is neither the time nor the place.

  1. I’d like to see a ban on those who decry the violence perpetrated upon our public servants without once having spoken up against the violence perpetrated by them. Violence in all forms is ugly but no more so than those remain silent when it’s directed at the “other” and in doing so lend their full-throated endorsement to the good ole American genocide project.

  2. I saw both videos and both look like executions to me. This reminds me of the 70’s, but now there is video proof. And I’m wondering if the event in Dallas is only the first or many such responses in the weeks and months ahead.
