Young, blonde and idealistic– just the kind of woman who can drop the ax with Christian love in her heart. She was the perfect tool for George Bush, but now Monica Goodling has been found ‘untrustworthy’ by a jury of her peers. There is much more to this story than petty corruption… Hatchet Woman Rebuked Molly Wei, participant in the extraordinarily cruel prank that drove Tyler Clementi to suicide, has copped a plea and will rat out Dharun Ravi… Friends Herman Cain, declared winner of the first Republican presidential debate, is going to announce his candidacy on THE EXACT DATE OF THE RAPTURE! Coincidence? I Think Not.

The anti-choice tweet campaign steps up, and gets less funny and more creepy… I pointed out a few of the massive gaping flaws in Nadine Dorries’ push for abstinence-focused sex ed, and also got very confused when the Daily Mail published a feminist article. (Does this signal the end of feminism?)
I’m Tired of Being a Hero — On politics, expectations, demons, and teaching. Triangle: Back on the Lat-Stretching Asana Bandwagon — Unpacking an asana where the temptation can be to value appearance over feeling and freedom. Eating What I Deserve (trigger warning for talk of problematic attitudes toward food) — My reaction on learning that May 6 was International No Diet Day.
I’ve been facilitating a group blog and digital book club for 12 high school girls in 4 U.S. states to discuss stereotyping and prejudice, with a focus on the bias against Muslim women and girls. Participants are both Muslim and non-Muslim. We’ve been blogging for 2 months now. Feel free to visit and comment! Wait, What? We’re also on twitter (WaitWhatBlog) and last.fm (waitwhatblog).
In my addled end-of-semester mind — a period in which I fantasize about quitting my job and developing more feminist content for The Onion — I cooked up a short satirical piece that brings together the long story of university educations being devalued, rampant cultural sexism, and the drive to make female athletes wear skimpy clothes. Female Professors Forced to Wear Skimpy Outfits: http://feminema.wordpress.com/2011/05/07/female-professors-forced-to-wear-sexy-outfits-a-satire-or-is-it/
We had an election this week! “I Love Elections. I’m Having One Right Now”: Some Thoughts On Voting A Question for my fellow feminists and social justice people: do you ever wish you could stop caring? And, just for fun, Songs In The Key Of Work
Not something I wrote, but I want to shamelessly promote an event coming up in Columbus, OH. http://www.facebook.com/pages/March-for-Reproductive-Justice/161516873907586 It’s our “Walk for Choice” march and we need to be out in droves. Anyone in Ohio is encouraged to come to the statehouse for some serious pro-choice rallying. May 21st!
Why I’m not looking in a mirror for a month: Basically, without ever having meant to, I’ve bought into my own objectification–and I’ve had enough. (This post also appeared at Jezebel.) I also continue my historical/etymological/personal take on words we use to describe women’s appearance; this week’s is “foxy.”

A couple of these were reactions to other articles, but this week I wrote about the ways musicians with mental illness are stigmatized, , discussed a way to determine gender bias in pop music, and said goodbye to Joanna Russ.
It has been a controversial week on my blog, in part due to a post by Max Wolf Valerio regarding how assumptions made regarding “genderqueer” can harm post-transsexual men. http://womenborntranssexual.com/2011/05/02/one-size-does-not-fit-all-max-wolf-valerio-a-story-of-interest/ I then followed this up with a piece titled “Longing for Ordinary” about how post-transsexual people often do not want to be part of the “transgender community” and how we often want to be just ordinary women or men, with the matter of defining ‘ordinary’ left to the individual. http://womenborntranssexual.com/2011/05/04/longing-for-ordinary/
I just wrote up my talk from a symposium on ‘Rethinking Masculinity and Violence’. It’s called ‘The Patriarchal Dividend At War’. It’s here: http://thedisorderofthings.wordpress.com/2011/05/08/the-patriarchal-dividend-at-war/
This week, I wrote about US identity and masculinity in relation to the Osama Bin Laden killing – here, here, and here.
Stiletto feminism? The difference between “I like sex” and “I want creepy guys who can change my future to get creepy with me”.

Wrote a tribute to my mother – a woman with whom I had a mutual fear and loathing during my teen years. My Mother I’ve since found feminism, self-confidence and independent happiness. And oh holy shit – so has she.
Happy Mama’s Day, mamas! This week, I did some reminiscing about my childhood homegirl, She-Ra. …and also got some lovely comments from a men’s right’s activist on my post …and what of the boys?

I started a Tumblr blog about teaching and other stuff related to my academic interests. This week under the feminism tag: two images (WWII propaganda and suffragettes) and two poems (Margaret Atwood and Edna St. Vincent Millay).
Happy Mother’s Day! Who else is stuffed from Olive Garden and chocolate? This week, over at FitC: Hammer it Home, Hollywood: A Feminist Look at the movie Thor: The Hottie with a hammer and a vaguely British accent Movie actually has strong female leads. What’s good, what’s flawed, and what can be redeemed. Long Overdue: On the strange and coincidental sensation of being in the exact same place as I was on 9/11 (indeed, the very same seat) and hearing news involving that fateful day, nearly 10 years later. The Real World: Homophobia City: The Real World has a history of featuring LBGT cast members. The current season in Las Vegas has the opportunity to look at sexual fluidity in a positive way, as well as educate on the dehumanization of sex workers, but fails on both counts. And in a personal post: To Have and To Hold, love and marriage, and some thoughts on both. Thanks for this space, Feministe!
This week at GAB, we started our first fundraising drive. Why do we need money when none of us get paid, you might ask. Hop on over to GAB and see what we can do with the funds. We also helped William Easterly discover he was a feminist! We’re currently looking for writers for our “Behind the Mask of Masculinity” series, as well as discussing cyberstalking and abortion access in Poland.
I wrote a huge and angry shred of HR3, which I am pretty proud of. Unfortunately I wrote it while I should have been studying for my French final and as a result I’m pretty sure I flunked it. Anyway, check it out http://macguffinandpuffin.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/asshole-of-the-month-may/
I made a twitter page under my cat’s name 🙂 just something silly (plus it allows me to talk about political things and blame it on the cat). Check it out @angrycasey.
my mom is my best friend and my hero. She raised me to be a strong and independent person. I am super proud of her, and you should all read about how awesome she is because she deserves an award. A blog about the feminist inspired way that my mom raised me, and how that led to me growing up to be a queer feminist activist. My mom is awesome. http://queeringthefeminist.blogspot.com/2011/05/why-my-mom-is-awesome-on-barbies-disney.html
This mother’s day, let’s skip the adorable kitten greeting cards and bunches of roses bred to within an inch of scentlessness, picked by fourth-world residents working in inhumane conditions, trucked halfway across the globe and sold at ridiculous markups, shall we? Instead, let’s talk about the politics of child-rearing! Or, more specifically, the politics of taxes for child-education and other kiddo-focused expenses.

Two weeks ago I did my first ever porn shoot, and I’m writing about it on my blog, Tales of a Kinky Radfem: Part 1 of 6 (Big City Secret/ Extraordinary Machine)– I just flew across the country and no one but my ex boyfriend knows. Part 2 of 6 (When I Get Back)-Driving through a brand new city, touring the models’ dorms. Part 3 of 6 (Date with the Night) What does a gal do the night before? Probably not what you think. The rest of it will be up this week, but in the meantime there’s also this: Important News: Jezebel Still Getting Worse Every Day
Episode 8 of the Not Your Mama’s Gamer podcast. A really fun episode. http://www.samanthablackmon.net/notyourmamasgamer/?p=431
How gender affected the career paths and treatment of 1800’s American sculptors Harriet Hosmer and Hiram Powers by critics and historians. http://whatistalent.wordpress.com/2011/05/07/women-in-art-harriet-hosmer-and-hiram-powers/
Bema on the ethical implications of the different ways in which to have a kid. He also talks about Panela. ethecofem is on Facebook! Come like our page! According to one Minnesota State lawmaker, abortion exists because men are perverts, and the only way to make them stop being perverts is for women to buck up and take responsibility for their actions– the men’s, that is– and stop having all those abortions to let them off the hook. I got a job with a local environmental non-profit, and really sort of hated everything about it. Bema would love your advice and take on how his interview went with Organizing for America. On constricting closets. Some kid-picture nostalgia. Minnesota State Representative appears to have created a new slogan for the fight for equal marriage. On how this is not the time for pride— on bin Laden’s death.
This week I did a small rant about Brink and it’s focus on character customization but complete and total lack of female characters. http://zaewen.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/brink-the-game-with-unlimited-customization/ And last week, I had two posts, one being a quick run down of the whole pink v. blue bad science bs and the other being a review of Fable 3 from a feministic stand point. http://zaewen.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/pink-and-blue-a-quick-blog-on-evo-psyc-bull-crap/ http://zaewen.wordpress.com/2011/04/25/a-disappointing-return-trip-to-albion/
I wrote a post about the Take Back the Night march at my university and why it is important for universities to encourage participation in such events.
This week: Saudi Arabian Women and the Fight for Suffrage The Banning of the Burqa in France Islamophobia on Atlantic Southeast Airlines On the Death of Osama bin Laden
In G-spots and experiencing the divine I explore the possibility of treating divine experiences as being of something subjective rather than objective. In a follow-up post, Being Respectfully Skeptical of the Divine I look at how those who are skeptical of the existence of gods or anything else divine can respond to those who have had experiences of something divine. And, in A Religion Is More Than Its Holy Books I dispute the notion that a religion’s essentials are necessarily found in its holy books.
I talk about the first season of Treme and what it says about art and culture as a site of resistance: http://goldennotebooks.blogspot.com/2011/05/opium-feels-good.html
[Trigger Warning for non-consensual touching] I wrote a response to an Oatmeal comic, which involves hugging from behind. I argue that the comic demonstrates men’s power over women because of the unequal access it implies. Clinton gave a speech in response to shooting Bin Laden. She offers terrorists a choice, but there is only one option. I ask about the use of choice under the circumstances. [Spoiler Alert and Trigger Warning for fat-hatred] I analyze Portal 2 as portraying a feminist conception of power structures.
In an open letter to my Congressional representatives, I proposed the No Taxpayer Funding for Viagra Act. This satire was the only way I could think of to express my anger, fear, and frustration about the fact that a similar bill manipulating the tax code to make abortion care unaffordable and less accessible recently passed the US House of Representatives. Feel free to pass it around or send it to your representatives as well!
so this past week, i reflected on the importance of leaning into our emotions and feelings and not leaning away from them in http://www.inspiritual.biz/inspiritual-reflections/2011/5/3/which-way-are-you-leaning.html and then began to reflect on why chopped is such a spiritual experience for me in confessions of a chopped addict — http://www.inspiritual.biz/the-zenful-kitchen/2011/5/4/confessions-of-a-chopped-addict.html and of course i continued my spiritual journey for a good part of this past week in stirring my spiritual waters — http://www.inspiritual.biz/stirring-my-spiritual-waters/ i also invite you to participate in this weeks inspiritual conversation http://www.inspiritual.biz/inspiritual-conversations/post/1474635 or to share your own inspiritual reflection http://www.inspiritual.biz/share-your-inspiritual-reflect/
